Calcutta Rescue is proud to partner with Fundación Colores De Calcuta and Manos Unidas to support our Mother and Child Health project. At the heart of this initiative is our "1000 Days Program", a carefully designed support system that accompanies mothers from the early stages of pregnancy until their child is two years old. This comprehensive program provides medical care, nutritional advice, vaccinations and education to ensure the well-being of mother and child.
One of the focal points of this program is the importance of breastfeeding. To emphasize this, we have organized a three-day educational event specifically for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers during Breastfeeding Week.
The event began with an exciting and interactive quiz where the Calcutta Rescue team asked questions on important topics such as breastfeeding, nutrition and immunization. The young mothers eagerly participated and demonstrated their knowledge and commitment to their children's health.
Rani, a mother from the Topsia slum with a one-year-old boy, shared her moving experience: "When Dada from Calcutta Rescue explained to me how important the pneumonia vaccine is for my son, I went to the local pharmacies to find it. I was stunned to realize that each dose costs more than a thousand rupees. My husband, who earns only a modest daily wage, could not afford it. But Calcutta Rescue provided the vaccine for free! I am so grateful. After learning about breastfeeding, I took the advice and breastfed my son exclusively for six months. Now I continue to breastfeed and feed him soft foods at the same time, just like Dada suggested." Her joy was palpable as she recounted her journey.
The program ended with the distribution of nutritious plates of food to all mothers, a gesture that reaffirmed our continued commitment to their health and well-being.
