In addition to health care and school education, Calcutta Rescue is constantly developing small projects that complement our main services. The extended range of services includes the social support that Calcutta Rescue offers our families, students and their families. It also includes another project, handicraft production, which is now flourishing.

Craft production

Calcutta Rescue's handicraft project was born out of an effort to offer work to disadvantaged former patients from our various hospitals and school dropouts from our schools. These vital jobs enable people to earn a living for their families. Other employment opportunities are otherwise very limited, for example due to illness.

One woman works in the handicraft workshop as part of the extended offer.

From a modest activity in a former clinic premises, a lively, unique project has developed today. The handicraft project has received official "Fair Trade" certification. More than half of all our handicraft sales are made through Fair Trade stores in India and abroad. The current Handicraft catalog is available here.
