It all began in 1991 in improvised tents that had to be set up every day. We now have a total of four permanently installed clinics that look after our patients in close cooperation with the pharmacy. Each clinic was created in response to a local need and has adapted to new requirements over the years.
The Chitpur clinic was closed in May 2022. It was specifically aimed at leprosy patients. The patients now receive medical care at the Talapark Clinic.
The Nimtala Clinic has only existed since November 2015 and provides general medical care for people living on the streets. It is the first of our so-called "Neighborhood Clinics".
The Tangra Clinicwas opened on November 1, 2022. It is the 2nd of our so-called "Neighborhood Clinics". The Tangra slum has over 7000 residents who are in great need.
The Talapark Clinic offers general medical care and has a mother and child department as well as a department for people with disabilities. Physiotherapy and speech therapy are offered here on a regular basis. Since 2006, HIV consultations have also been held here twice a week.
The Tuberculosis Clinic specializes in the fight against tuberculosis and has been working closely with the Indian government and the WHO (World Health Organization) for years. The success rates for TB treatment in our clinic are statistically very high.
Calcutta Rescue only works in areas of high need where there is inadequate provision by government, charitable or private organizations. As a result, we regularly change and expand the range of our clinics to meet current and future needs.
This approach enabled Calcutta Rescue to take on a pioneering role in the field of HIV treatment after the turn of the millennium.
