Physiotherapy has been part of Calcutta Rescue's medical services ever since the clinics were established. The physiotherapy team treats patients with a wide range of ailments. A large group are patients with chronic, incurable lung diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (progressive disease of the lungs with inflamed and permanently narrowed airways). These diseases are very common in Kolkata due to the high levels of air pollution. Regular physiotherapy sessions and home exercises alleviate breathing difficulties and reduce the frequency of recurring respiratory infections. Those affected can often reduce their intake of medication and suffer fewer side effects as a result.
Individual therapy
Patients with back pain with back pain, joint pain or neurological diseases as well as leprosy patients leprosy sufferers also benefit greatly from the individually tailored physiotherapy in the clinics and from selected exercises that they can do themselves at home. at home.
Physiotherapy is an important treatment method for many illnesses and pain conditions, which can provide significant relief and in some cases even a cure. This is just as true in India as it is here in the western world.

Calcutta Rescue offers physiotherapy three times a week at the Talapark Clinic, once a week at the Chitpur Clinic and, since last year, two mornings a week at the Nimtala Clinic. Home visits are also carried out for serious cases.
The disabled children and young people who are cared for as part of Calcutta Rescue's disability program also benefit from physiotherapy. Three times a week, a pediatric physiotherapist comes to the Talapark Clinic to treat affected children and adolescents. While most of them are developmentally retarded and have motor impairments, some also have delayed speech development and reduced learning ability. A speech therapist therefore completes the team and is also present at the Talapark Clinic three times a week.
