46 years old Motiur Rahman is a patient of Calcutta Rescue’s Belgachia clinic and is a case of chronic renal hypertension. Patient was diagnosed with renal failure in 2004 for which he was treated. However he had a relapse again in 2005.
Although he was treated his ailment persisted. Then in 2010 he came to PG hospital, a government hospital in Kolkata and underwent dialysis. However he was unable to bear the cost of his dialysis and so the hospital authorities referred him to Calcutta Rescue.
When Motiur came to Calcutta Rescue’s Belgachia clinic, he was suffering from severe swelling of the hands and legs. He also complained of irritation with his vision and was very weak. Patient has been on dialysis since May 2010.
He was immediately put on medications and now he is better though the weakness and swelling is still there. At present patient is undergoing dialysis twice a week. He also needs to have regular tests to keep his progress in check.
His treatment cost is as follows:
The cost of each dialysis – Rs.500/- (to be taken twice every week)
A Dialyser for his dialysis after every 6 dialysis taken – Rs. 700/-
He last took his dialysis in January 2012.
Motiur Rahman lives with his wife in a tin house with a shanty roof which was provided by the government in his village. He has sold all his land and little property that he had in order to support his treatment. However, now he has nothing left excepting for a cow.
He feels very desperate these days. He pleaded to us to help him and his wife.
“I have nothing. I don’t want to die. My wife has no one but me. I have to live for my wife”, he cried with joined hands.
This is an earnest request to please come forward and help us give this man another chance to live.
